Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) Case Study: Wireless That Scales

SRQ Airport - Slice Wireless Public WiFi

When Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) experienced record growth right after transitioning to Slice Wireless; rising from 2,010,304 passengers to 3,163,543. Our network was prepared with reliable wireless internet that successfully handled the surge like a mission critical utility should be expected to. Flawlessly!

Slice Wireless was selected through a competitive bid to replace an insufficient legacy system and deliver modern WiFi designed for today’s density and tomorrow’s expansion.

Wireless Services Provided
Slice designed a high density WiFi 6 deployment for large area WiFi coverage across the terminal, ramp areas of the tarmac, remote/long term parking, and outer operational buildings. The solution included multi Gbps circuits, with rapid capacity expansion via added fiber for redundancy; effectively doubling throughput to meet unexpected demand. Slice’s WiSNET™ platform created and supports a cost recovery network approach and enables revenue opportunities through concession and tenant connectivity; turning managed permanent WiFi into a strategic asset.

Lessons Learned
High bandwidth public WiFi improves passenger experience even in smaller airports. Concession based monetization can be an effective model for right sized facilities. Just as important, streamlined infrastructure design reduces operational complexity while increasing resilience.

Performing a rigorous wireless site survey and RF site survey remain essential to ensure coverage, capacity, and long term performance.
